Having been issued hundreds of patents, the name Borsig stands for innovation. The Schinkel architectural style of the Borsig buildings was as famous as its architects: Strack, Persius, Schmohl, Reimer & Körte. Borsig is regarded as the father of mobility. The A. Borsig Maschinenbauanstalt (engine construction company) was Europe’s most important manufacturer of trains and locomotives.

For Alexander von Humboldt the name Borsig meant much more than just the joy of nature. Peter Josef Lenné, the renowned designer of landscape and parks, provided the park attached to the Borsig family villa in Berlin’s Moabit district with the finest horticulture.

The A. Borsig Maschinenbauanstalt was the first enterprise equipped with company-owned swimming baths. The first comprehensive company-owned social framework was established here.

The agricultural model estate in Groß Behnitz, which today is Landgut A. Borsig, was part of the company and supplied the company’s own works with its home-grown food produce. In 1866, a cowshed was constructed. This building was air-conditioned by means of biomass energy. The arable land was artificially watered with water from the lake, but only to the extent that the water level of the lake remained constant by means of the backflow of ground water.

As a an expert in forestry and agriculture, Dr Ernst von Borsig junior was a member of “Kreisauer Kreis”, the most important resistance movement against Hitler and National Socialism.
